Why Are Front Load Washer Efficient

Technology has helped us to look at washing machines in a whole new way. We are now asking that the washing machine do more than just remove dirt from fabric. With the cost of clothing continuing to rise, we expect our clothes washers to carefully clean our clothes but to also help to protect our investment in our clothes as well.

Why Are Front Load Washer Efficient

Top load washers were a huge improvement over the wringer washers and washboards of the past. They fully automated the clothes laundering process. This saved someone a large block of time each week. But those old machines were not really designed to care for today’s fabrics, or at least not properly care for today’s fabrics. Old top load washers relied on an agitator ring or bar to rub and twist the fabric until all of the dirt was removed. This system work but it was very harmful to the fibers of the fabric. It caused pulls, tears and color variations very quickly in some fabrics.

New front load washers use a much less harsh method of cleaning. Clothes are placed in a relatively smooth drum and are tumbled against each other to loosen and remove the dirt from the fabric. During all of the tumbling the clothes are cushioned and rinsed by the continuously moving water. This method eliminates the grinding and twisting motions that had previously damaged the fabrics. The tumbling method also ensures that the water is always in motion which is more efficient than the use of the water in the top load machines. For this reason, front load washers actually use about 50% less water to clean a single load of clothes.

Further innovation has provided a series of built in wash programs that are designed according to the specific needs of different types of fabrics. This allows the operator to simply select the type of fabric being laundered and the front load washer does the rest. It sets the appropriate water level and temperature, the length of the wash cycle and even the speed of the spin cycle. This built in programming ensures that each fabric will be completely clean at the end of the wash cycle but also will not be damaged.

With preprogrammed wash cycles and settings the front load washer provides the safest and most efficient way to wash clothing. Not only does it save time and money through lower energy usage, but it also protects the large investment made in clothing and other household fabrics.
