Pine Chest of Drawers

Pine is an excellent choice of wood for a chest of drawers. It has a beautiful grain, and takes a stain well, so it can be finished in just about any wood stain desired. Pine naturally occurs in several shades, from the true white pine, which is stunning with just a coat of varnish, through yellow and gold to a soft tan. From pale, natural pine, to a soft honey pine, all the way to a dark cherry or walnut, pine will be a lovely accent in your decor.

Although not as hard as some of the other woods like maple, pine is sturdy and durable, and holds up well under daily use. It is also environmentally friendly, since pine grows more quickly than hardwoods such as oak. Pine forests can be replanted and mature sooner than other woods, which helps protect the ecosystem, and also causes pine to be more affordable for many people.

Chests of drawers come in many models, and since pine is so versatile, it can be used in a wide range of styles from log cabin simple to beautifully carved and embellished pieces. Knotty pine, with its characteristic knots throughout, is often sought for furniture and paneling with a rustic, country feel. The smoother-grained pines work well for any style from Colonial to Chippendale to contemporary. Clean-lined modern or Scandinavian-style pieces are just as beautiful in pine as the carved ball-and-claw of a Queen Anne leg.

Chose pine for your chest of drawers, either in a warm wood stain, or a beautiful paint to harmonize with your color scheme, and you won’t regret it. You’ll have many years of pleasure and use from your durable pine chest. Unlike wood veneers, small scratches and nicks add to the character and warmth of your real wood furniture.
